Location: Solihull, Birmingham

The Brief

Newlands Bishop Farm is no ordinary venue. Operated by the Family Care Trust, the farm provides meaningful opportunities to people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions through real work-based training in horticulture, animal husbandry, catering, horse care, woodwork, and more.

Based just minutes from Solihull town centre, the farm is a vibrant, inclusive space that combines therapeutic benefits with practical skills development. Always seeking ways to enhance its support services and financial sustainability, Newlands Bishop Farm identified a powerful opportunity: hosting weddings and events. With the potential to not only raise vital funds for the charity but also offer hands-on event experience to its project workers, this idea aligned beautifully with the farm’s mission.

To make this vision a reality, the team at Newlands Bishop Farm sought a structure that was durable, weatherproof, aesthetically in tune with the natural surroundings—and above all—unique.

The Challenge

The key challenge was to find a flexible yet robust event structure that complemented the rural charm of the farm while offering the wow factor for wedding guests and corporate clients. It also had to be strong enough to withstand the unpredictable British weather and versatile enough to host everything from intimate ceremonies to large-scale summer events.

The farm team wanted a venue that could seamlessly blend into their beautiful woodland and garden surroundings, reflecting the rustic and authentic charm of their working farm while still delivering a premium feel for weddings and events. Additionally, the structure needed to support the farm’s goal of reinvesting profits into their charitable initiatives and provide opportunities for project workers to assist with setup, catering, and guest services.

The Design & Installation

After an initial consultation and site assessment, Newlands Bishop Farm chose to partner with The Tipi Company to create their bespoke outdoor event space.

The installation began with two Big Hat Tipis joined by a linking kit to form a flexible and sheltered area for weddings and events. Recognising the potential, the farm later added a third Big Hat Tipi to expand capacity and elevate the guest experience.

To enhance the visual appeal and functionality of the space, the team also invested in: Panoramic windows, an entrance kit, wooden flooring and tables & benches.

As with all installations by The Tipi Company, our expert team handled every aspect of the build—from groundwork advice to secure, weather-resistant installation—ensuring the structures were built to last and ready for year-round use.

Theming

The stunning three-hat tipi setup is now a centrepiece of Newlands Bishop Farm’s summer events. Hosting rustic weddings, charity functions, and seasonal gatherings, the venue offers couples and guests a picturesque setting that includes: A woodland ceremony area, Beautiful landscaped gardens, Festoon lighting that adds a magical glow in the evenings

While the space is undoubtedly beautiful, the real magic lies in its purpose. Events held at the farm directly contribute to the funding of charitable services—enabling the Family Care Trust to continue and expand their vital support programs.

Even more meaningfully, project workers at the farm gain first-hand experience in hospitality and events—from preparing the venue to serving guests—equipping them with skills they can take into employment and boosting their confidence.

This unique business model makes the tipi installation more than just an event venue—it’s a tool for social change, community inclusion, and long-term sustainability.
