“The Tipi’s have been a huge success, offering 6 unique glamping solutions to compliment our eco-friendly family adventure park. We saw over 90% occupancy throughout August and some strong occupancy levels either side of that, so we are impressed with how the tipis are performing for us.”

Steven Lester, Operations Manager, Greenwood Family Park

The Brief

Greenwood Family Park is renowned as North Wales' premier family attraction, offering thrilling outdoor adventures in the heart of Snowdonia National Park. Known for its eco-friendly innovations like the world’s only people-powered roller coaster and the UK’s first solar-powered water slide, the park is a must-visit destination for families seeking adventure.

Looking to enhance the visitor experience and grow their business, Greenwood sought to develop a glamping site. The goal was to offer unique accommodation that allows guests to stay overnight, extending their time at the park. Given the natural beauty of the area, Greenwood wanted to ensure the glamping structures complimented the environment while providing comfort and adventure for their guests.

The Challenge

In early 2020, Greenwood Family Park made an initial investment in a Midi Tipi from The Tipi Company. This was the first step in their glamping site project. However, just as plans were beginning to unfold, the Covid-19 pandemic hit, forcing businesses to close and delaying the park's expansion plans.

By 2021, as the world began to reopen, they were ready to expand further, adding three more Midi Tipis and two Baby Tipis to their glamping collection.

The challenge was not just in selecting the right structures but also in ensuring they complemented the surrounding natural landscape of Snowdonia National Park. The Tipis had to be sturdy, comfortable, and suitable for year-round use while offering an eco-friendly, immersive glamping experience for families.

The Design & Installation

The installation of the first Midi Tipi was expertly handled by The Tipi Company, while the additional structures were assembled by the Greenwood Family Park team, demonstrating the ease and adaptability of the installation process. To create a long-lasting, sustainable setup, all the Tipis were installed on raised wooden flooring bases, ensuring they were permanent fixtures and providing insulation from the ground. Each Tipi also included an entrance porch, offering easy access and creating a welcoming first impression for guests.

The raised wooden bases were crucial in creating a stable, comfortable foundation for the Tipis, ensuring they were elevated off the forest floor, protecting them from dampness and providing a more permanent installation.

Theming

Each Tipi was designed with a log burner, adding a cosy element for cooler nights, which allowed the glamping site to remain functional throughout the year. The interiors were crafted with care to reflect the rustic charm of the park while ensuring modern comforts were readily available.

Greenwood Family Park carefully curated the interiors of the Tipis to provide a luxurious yet down-to-earth glamping experience. Each Midi Tipi features:

  • A log burner to provide warmth during cold evenings.
  • Comfortable bedding with one double bed and three or four single beds in the Midi Tipis. The Baby Tipis, slightly smaller in size, offer cosy accommodation with one double bed and two single beds
  • Furnishings and dining essentials to ensure guests have everything they need for a comfortable stay.
  • An outdoor BBQ area for family meals in the heart of nature.
  • Free Wi-Fi, enabling guests to stay connected during their getaway.

The glamping site is fully equipped with additional amenities, including a communal kitchen, toilet block, hot showers, and more, ensuring all guests enjoy a complete glamping experience.

The introduction of Tipi glamping has been a huge success for Greenwood Family Park, providing a unique and eco-friendly accommodation option that complements the park's ethos and natural surroundings. The Tipis have not only enhanced the guest experience but also increased the park’s appeal, enabling them to attract families looking for a more immersive and extended visit.
