The Brief
Open since 2014, The Barn Café Dorset is nestled in the picturesque farm courtyard of Bere Farm. Known for using fresh, local produce, they delight visitors with a menu of brunch, lunch, coffee, and cakes, all served in a charming barn setting. To cater to growing demand, The Barn Café sought to expand its capacity while adding a unique and quirky feature to enhance the customer experience and attract even more visitors to their countryside venue.
The Challenge
Owner Ben envisioned a space that seamlessly connected to the existing café, creating an immersive experience where customers would walk through a stunning tipi entrance before entering the main restaurant.
To achieve this, the solution needed to work on a hard-standing surface and overcome the challenges of limited space, ensuring it fit the café's layout while offering a visually striking addition.
The Design & Installation
The Tipi Company was chosen for its ability to offer bespoke solutions tailored to the Barn Café’s needs. A site visit was conducted to evaluate the space and understand the café’s specific requirements. Using our in-house CAD design capabilities, we mapped out the perfect positioning to overcome restricted space, ensuring heaters, facilities, and entryways were strategically hidden while maintaining the tipi’s aesthetic appeal.
Theming
The café chose a Big Hat Tipi with two Entrance Porches to provide versatility and enhance the dining space. A bespoke link was created to seamlessly connect the tipi to the existing café entrance, ensuring a smooth flow for customers. Panoramic windows were incorporated, allowing the sides to be rolled up or down for an open-air feel during the summer months.
To complete the design, wooden flooring was installed throughout, providing a polished and practical finish that complemented the café’s rustic aesthetic. The installation was expertly managed by an Approved Tipi Installer, ensuring the structure was secure and fully optimized for year-round use.
The tipi transformed the Barn Café Dorset, creating a stunning and functional space for casual dining and drinks while significantly increasing its seating capacity. The addition enhanced the café’s charm, making it a memorable destination for customers. With its adaptable design, the tipi offers comfort throughout the year, providing an open-air experience in summer and a cosy retreat during winter. The unique and inviting atmosphere has attracted new visitors while delighting regulars, contributing to the café’s continued success and increased revenue.
