The Brief
Rosedene Nurseries is dedicated to providing exceptional early years education, enriching experiences, and high-quality childcare across 10 nurseries. With locations throughout Middlesbrough, Teesside, and North Yorkshire, all rated Outstanding or Good by Ofsted, the nursery group is committed to fostering innovative learning environments.
Seeking to enhance their outdoor learning provisions, Rosedene approached The Tipi Company to introduce tipis as dedicated outdoor classrooms, offering a unique and inspiring space for children to learn and explore nature.
The Challenge
The designated spaces for the tipis at Rosedene’s nurseries initially lacked the required dimensions to accommodate the structures. To address this, groundwork needed to be undertaken to create suitable installation areas. When a member of The Tipi Company’s sales team visited the sites, they mapped out the dimensions of a Baby Tipi, allowing the Rosedene team to visualise how the structures would fit into the space. This consultation also identified elements that required removal or adjustments to ensure a smooth installation.
Additionally, the nursery team worked to level the ground at both sites, ensuring a stable foundation for the tipis and making the installation process more efficient.
The Design & Installation
Once the groundwork was completed, The Tipi Company’s expert installation team set up Baby Tipis at both the Northallerton and Easterside nursery locations. Each tipi was equipped with an entrance porch and wooden doors, providing a welcoming and functional learning space.
To enhance durability and usability throughout the year, the tipis were installed on raised wooden bases, which serve as both permanent flooring and a secure anchoring system to withstand various weather conditions.
Theming
The new tipis serve as outdoor classrooms, fostering an engaging, nature-inspired environment where children can explore, learn, and develop their skills all year round. Designed to support Rosedene’s commitment to outdoor learning, these structures provide an inspiring setting that encourages creativity, curiosity, and hands-on educational experiences.
By incorporating tipis into their learning spaces, Rosedene Nurseries has strengthened its outdoor education offering, ensuring that children have the opportunity to learn in a natural and enriching setting, whatever the season.
