Located on a family farm in Peterborough, Little Wellies Day Nursery provides a unique educational experience within a farm environment. Run by Clare and Tilly, the nursery offers endless opportunities for adventure, fostering a love for learning and nature among its young attendees. Due to high demand, the nursery faced a growing waiting list and needed to expand its capacity with a new classroom space that could be used year-round.
Expanding the nursery posed challenges, as constructing a new building would be both costly and time-consuming. Little Wellies needed a practical yet charming solution that could accommodate a class of children and align with their ethos of connecting education with the outdoors.
The team at Little Wellies selected a Big Hat Tipi in Forest Green canvas with Enhancement Kit D, which features panoramic panels that can be opened for ventilation during warmer days. To ensure durability and functionality, the Tipi was installed on a raised wooden base, providing a permanent floor.
The design included two entrance porches: a formal entrance with wooden doors, an additional entrance at the back of the Tipi for flexibility.
The Tipi Company’s expert installation team travelled to the site, ensuring precise assembly and positioning to create the perfect outdoor classroom.
Little Wellies enhanced the space with thoughtful additions:
Outdoor decking: Extended from the wooden base, featuring picnic benches and decorative fencing.
Classroom setup: Inside the Tipi, they incorporated wooden tables and chairs, games, and rugs to create a welcoming and functional learning environment.
Fairy lights: Wrapped around each Tipi pole, providing warm lighting to make the space inviting and magical.
